Aaah... our trip to Dublin was much too short. :( Right on the first day we ate the best Fish n' Chips in the world (you know... a whole cod fillet in beer batter and finger-thick fries with salt and vinegar. yumm!!!), met the most asshole-y weather (5mins of rain, 5mins of sun, 5mins of torrential downpour, 5 mins of sun...), went for shopping makeup at Urban Decay (Behold!! THE GLORY!!) and met two super friendly Irishmen at the pub who insisted on buying us our first Guinness of the trip. Yeah, good times. Day two was for culture. Went to Christ Church Cathedral and saw the viking exposition, wandered through the Long Room at Trinity College (hehee, the one that was used as model for the library in the abysmally bad Star Wars II), and saw the absolutely stunning Marsh's Library. At Marsh's Library there was a really sweet old man who was the custodian of the place so we chatted a bit and he told us that he loves Toblerone chocolate, aaaw... he also told us that we should go visit the village of Malahide, where he lives, on our last day for a trip out of the city. Which of course we did. After a coffeeshop breakfast, we set out to Malahide, a lovely little town with a marina and castle. We went for a stroll at the beach overlooking the Irish Sea, and then continued to the castle where we sat in the park observed by a really cute and curious robin. We ate at the local pub that was full of people because seemingly some Irish league football game was on... from time to time one could hear them cheer :P
And yeah, that's already it. Was much too short!! Dublin is a really lovely city, not too big, super food (we were so bummed that our stomachs couldn't hold more... would have loved trying out all the different places!!), incredibly friendly, helpful and content people, and pubs all around. Good times it was. Hopefully soon for a next time??

Back from the mini-holiday. Saunaing was awesome! I had a 90min Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Temple Massage... haha I could have lied there for about double the time! I wish I was a Hawaiian priest of some sort so I could get massages to "free the mind and make communication with the gods easier" XDD
And for your amusement- I honestly hate Lady Gaga but this nifty edited Southpark version is too awesome. (from the "Whale Whores" episode. Go watch it, because it makes fun of the Japanese. yeah! :P)

Since Friday is Gramma's 85th Birthday, we'll celebrate by going for a few days of wellness holiday with her, to a lovely town situated on Lake Constance. We also booked a Hot Stone Massage, hope it'll be nice. The weather is lovely, so at least that will be good! And they've got a nice sushi bar, yummm.... :3 I also turned in an application for becoming Team Leader at work. Seemingly placement test will take place on November 2nd. Not that I'm that keen on going, but so many idiots applied too that I thought I'd throw my name into the bucket to increase the number of intelligent people to choose from. I mean.. there's so many at work who are just too bad at English and too racist and plainly too rude and uneducated to be team leader!! And imagining that I'd have to work with them as my leader? No thanks!! I'm not keen on feeling ashamed for other people for how they interact with passengers. bleah.
But now- last trip to the city for getting Gramma's present, huzzah!!

Tonight we finally got around to lighting some incense sticks around the house because whenever you open the door to get inside, there is this old apartment smell. I mean, not bad, not like... say... a rotting rat under the cupboard, just a general old and kinda thick apartment-y smell. Since lighting a match works for getting rid of nasty smells too, we reasoned that incense could do the trick.
The incense we have is still the one I used to have back in Japan. In early Autumn days like these, I would light one on the desintegrating window sill of my crappy horrible room to get a bit of atmosphere in there. Everytime I smell incense now, I tend to think back about that time. It was good, and sometimes I wish I could go back, but it's not a concrete feeling, more like a... kind of longing, or romanticized vision. I wonder if you only get these as you get older. XDD Or because we brought our friend I. to the airport, since she's going to be in Osaka for a year. ...Because I know, and I guess everybody who's been there will agree with me, Japan sucks, except in the case when you're there for two weeks and with a gold credit card in hand. ;)
Uhm, I also tend to be quite generous with my money spendin' habits lately. It's not that I don't have enough, maybe it's Autumn, changing season. I want clothes, dammit, but no good things around at the moment! I also wish I had a Discworld Ankh-Morpork Post Office messenger bag. Those are quite nifty, and would be practical for travelling, or shopping in the city. ;)

MAKEUP BINGE BUY!!! XDD
Yesterday morning I was supposed to go to Yoga class with Angie but there was one of the irregular student card checks in front of the door so I, not having one, went to the city instead. Nothing too interesting to buy in the shops clothes-wise at the moment, but when I went to the MAC cosmetics counter... they have a new limited edition line out all with black products, and their eyeshadows were so amazing that.... I feel a bit ashamed for it, I must admit ... I got all four of 'em. I think it's because I'm like a magpie- if it sparkles, and if, as a plus, it sparkles in many different shiny colours, I must get it.
I reason that I did work my ass of on Monday for something, so yeah. Four hours of work well spent :P
Also, Unseen Academicals has finally been released, and what should I say- awesome Pratchett as always, whee!! I really hope he can go on writing at least one more novel, or two... (;;) I installed myself at the student cafe with a nice cup of hot tea and got to reading on the comfy sofa until Angie came from her lecture. Good free day spent with good stuff.

Why the hell is everyone fussing so much about Polanski being arrested for child molestation? Being a good movie director doesn't make you stand above the law goddammit!! Yeah sure his victim seemingly forgave him because she didn't want any attention on her anymore, and it's from 30 years ago, but still- if you admit what you did and then flee the country, and are INTERNATIONALLY SEARCHED FOR BY INTERPOL Switzerland had good rights to arrest him when he arrived. Why is everyone so shocked at this now? Our Justice Department has no reason to apologize to anyone!
I'm sure if he was an insignificant person and called John Miller or Bob Smith or something he'd been caught and jailed already years ago. This makes me kinda sick.

I still remember the house sometimes. The slender Victorian frame with the high, white painted porch, detached from the street by three steps. They were white too, as were the window frames, hung with icicles during the harsh Chicago winters - they said there were termites under the porch but I never saw any so I didn't mind. I remember coming down into the kitchen at 3am, still in my pajamas, eyes full of sleep and jetlag, to get a steaming mug of tea, or maybe a bowl of cereal (always Rice Crispies), because travelling makes one hungry, waiting for the rest of the family to come and then huddle together and see the sun rise over the fir trees in the back yard in the early morning. The house had everything one needed to imagine one's own little castle. The high vaulted rooms, creaking wooden stairs going into the second floor, plushy carpets, old furniture, every bookshelf full of books. I wish we would have appreciated it more when we were there. New Years Eve spent in the living room, everyone in their fine dress- well, more or less nice, my dress was atrocious but somehow it looked nice in that specific moment- roasting marshmallows on sticks in the big roaring fire in the fireplace. Going upstairs afterwards, climbing the wonderful narrow stairs and up, right hand side into the room, up the rickety ladder to the gallery and then nestle underneath the warm comforters on the mattress, watching the snow, or sleet, drift down outside, the smell of that old, wonderful house in my nose. The time I was sick- when I was given some horrible, horrible medicine that made me sleep so deeply, drowned in warm cozy quilts, and the whole day I just spent lying there sipping soup that Mom made for me- I didn't mind, because it was that house, that room. It was heaven. Cooking on the ancient gas stove, looking out the windows with those traditional, welded window frames. The first scrambled eggs after arrival were always the best thing in the world, even though they tended to stick awfully to the scratched surface of the frying pan. How Mom and Nonna made traditional Italian food one evening, and everyone enjoying the wonderful meal together, all 7 of us, plus the dogs. I also remember being taken downtown Evanston, past rows of maple tree (I think) and streets lined with more of these delightful high, elegant houses to the shopping district. Tower records, some place called The Rock Shop where I as a dinosaur lover could get everything I wanted, the fabric store- all places I think back to, think of fondly, and sometimes regretting not being there anymore. Field Museum. Adler Planetarium. The places we always had to visit, every time we got there.
I wish they had never sold the house and never moved to Boston. And if I ever had enough money, even barely, I'd buy that wonderful Victorian house in Evanston on the maple-edged drive.

So finally!! Tuesday/Wednesday, Angie and I left for a two-day Munich trip with joined hairstyling session- yes, my hair stylist lives in Munich. And yes, I know it's far, but bottom line it'll cost the same as getting it done somewhere here in Zurich, only that then the results wouldn't be as satisfying. Leave it to Klara the wonder girl stylist!! ( Munich here!! )

Went to bring all the costumes that were borrowed from the Opera House back this morning. phew!! we had to hire a taxi and all to get the stuff there, haha. Enjoying the rest of the free day now. :3
September/October shift plans have come out today, and our holidays were accepted, so our Holiday Plans look as follows:
One week in September in the Prättigau region of Switzerland, for hiking, reading, and enjoying nature at its finest... will be nice, not doing anything big for a few days. I already bought a topographic hiking map so we won't get lost, and a few John Irving books, because they're thick and interesting and easily last for a week. Ah, and I should brush up on my Greek mythology so Angie and I can enjoy the starry alpine sky while tracing the deeds of big Greek heroes.
And finally, November will be four days in Dublin, Ireland, for a few good-measured pints, shopping, and culture!! I'm so thrilled about this, it's so exciting going to places you've never been before in your life!! Watch out for us, Irish Pub!! :DD
allright, need to go for a bit of grocery shopping, and then to asking our landlady to water the flowers the next few days until we're back from taking care about Dante the gargantuan cat. XD

What's on my mind today:
*Yay mineral makeup!! Looks great, feels super light, and doesn't make my skin itch. MAC rocks :D
*Hiking tomorrow! I'm sure it'll be grand.
*Why can't clamshell mobile phones be hip here?? there's nothing to choose from, and they're all mediocre and have tiny displays. Maaan when I think back at the ones they had in Japan.... sigh.

dammit, looks like I caught the stomach flu. aaargh! it sucks being at home sick anyway, but being at home sick with nobody around on my FREE DAY is even worse. I also got a bit of fever and a headache, bleh. But at least I get to drink stale coke and eat zwieback. :3
ok, so far for the moment. Looks like the last days of 9-hour shifts, going to the theater to help out, and not sleeping enough made me more vulnerable against critters. sucks. :(

goddammit. only a month, and already our internet is malfunctioning. it suddenly stopped working, so we figured out it was down for some reason although we paid our bill. so we called tech support, which took about half an hour until we got through, and then the guy told us that the technician has to come over because he can't figure out the problem. so much for "the tech's going to call you on monday"! honestly, we're super pissed!!
in other news, theater is going well, the premiere was last Friday and it seems it got down well with the critics too, I'll be helping with dressing and costume problems during some of the days, and else enjoying the little free time I have chilling on the balcony.
Katie- we trust you're doing fine?? We bought Metalocalypse on DVD last week. it arrived yesterday, but we already watched like half of the first season in one evening. yay!!! so awesome. :D

It was a troublesome week.
Thursday, our dear Katie went home to the US (we miss you, darling!!), and already everyday trot has caught up with us. I've been busy nearly every morning at the studio for the theater stuff, because the premiere is going to be on July 10 and there's not that much time left for everything- although, most of the stuff seems to fit, so there won't be thaaaat much left to do, yay! And on from July 10 will be morning airport and evening theater work. I hope I won't be overstraining myself with it.
Here's the link for the description tho. And I'm listed as "costume assistant", hehe. http://www.turbinetheater.ch/tt/index.php?id=51
I'm a bit moody in the last days anyway. But I don't know exactly why. *shrug*

Today is going to Appenzell for more sightseeing, tomorrow is going to work for my qualification test (*shudder!!*) and then on to Adelboden because Tuesday morning the farmers will bring their cows and animals up into the alpine pastures and we don't want to miss that!! Also, tonight is salsa party! Not that I know much salsa except a tiny leetle bit, and I have no idea on what to wear to it, but still, fun.
ok, off to the airport to go and do some more recognition training. :3
